Here Are The 7 Hottest Hair Trends For Prom Season 2017

Hold on to your corsages! Prom season is here, and the hunt for the perfect dress, shoes, bag, lipstick and date is on. Also on that critical list? Teens are texting and pinning like mad to come up with a hairstyle that’s totally ‘gram-able!

Matrix Artistic Director Robert Santana, who owns the trendy Elements Salon in Brooklyn, NY, notes that the days of cookie-cutter prom styles are long gone. Today’s prom-goers use this special event to express their style, their individuality and their point of view. He identifies seven trends for every hair length that allow young ladies to show the world what they’re all about!

1. Bed Head Ballerina Buns
These are the anti-stiff prom hairdos! Casual and disheveled, these buns are perfect for adornment with sparkly headbands or even fresh flowers. Loose, wispy, face-framing tendrils balance messy with sweet, and a dark root in the hair color adds depth to the design. “Enhance the texture with a dry shampoo like Matrix Style Link Mineral Play Back,” advises Santana. “It will provide the grip needed to keep the hair in place.”

2. Rapunzel Waves
Nothing is more romantic than a tumble of soft, feminine waves. Santana creates the curls with a ¾-inch curling iron, then pulls the ends to stretch the hair. A princess-worthy headband, adorned with pearls or sparkly stones, completes the picture.

3. Half Up & Half Down Braid Bouquets
Irregular braids nestled in soft waves put a unique spin on a half-up/half-down hairstyle. “If the budget allows,” says Santana, “highlights will really show off the details of this style.”

4. Side-Sweep Waves
Glamorous, glossy waves, swept over one shoulder, bring every girl’s red carpet fantasy to life. To keep waves in place, Santana places a row of bobby pins behind the ear on the opposite side.

5. ’80s Curls
Curly girls everywhere are embracing their natural textures, and prom is the perfect place for a head-full of springy coils. Santana refines curls by applying a lightweight curl cream like Biolage Curl Defining Elixir to damp hair, separating the head into one-inch section, dividing each section in half and twisting all of the halves together tightly. Once hair is dry, he carefully unfurls each twist.

6. Polished Pixies
Who says short hair can’t be dressed up? A pixie cut gets prom-ready with lift at the root and peek-a-boo bangs.

7. Gatsby Waves
These waves start with the idea of ’20s finger waves, then go slightly askew with fun and funky hair clips. It’s a young, fresh take on a classic hairstyle!
