SC Johnson Provides Tips to Simplify Air Travel with OFF!® Products in the United States

As the weather warms and thousands of families gear up for spring break, SC Johnson, the maker of trusted household products like Glade®, Raid®, Scrubbing Bubbles® and Ziploc®, is providing tips to simplify flying while protecting families from mosquitoes that may carry diseases like malaria, West Nile, Zika or dengue fever viruses.

For nearly 60 years, OFF!® has been helping protect families from mosquito bites. Since certain tropical or subtropical areas have experienced outbreaks in the past, it may be important to travel with insect repellents. For those traveling within or to and from the United States, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have guidelines regarding traveling with certain products.

To help simplify screening through airport security and to ultimately help ensure families have access to personal repellents during spring break, the company shares the following measures:

TSA and FAA Regulations for Checked and Carry-On Luggage

  • According to TSA guidelines, personal repellents in liquid, gel and aerosol form are allowed in both checked bags and carry-on luggage, but may be subject to certain size and quantity restrictions.
  • According to the FAA most insect repellents in non-aerosol liquid pump sprays and wipes are not restricted as hazardous materials – and therefore not subject to size or quantity limits in checked luggage.
  • Some liquid repellents are flammable – these are still allowed but must stay within the size and quantity limits specified by the FAA.
  • Liquids and aerosols in carry-on baggage are further limited to 3.4 fl. oz. (100 ml) containers at the TSA security checkpoint.

Please note the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/zika/prevention/plan-for-travel.html) recommends that all travelers should use personal insect repellent for three weeks after returning from tropical and sub-tropical areas.

Don’t let travel regulations keep you from protecting your family from mosquitoes that may carry malaria, Zika, dengue fever or West Nile viruses. With some forethought and the above tips, passing through airport security with OFF!® products can be stress-free.
