Olympians and Rox Volleyball Set Sights on Ways to Grow Volleyball
Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, Olympians and Florida natives, signed a multi-year deal last week with the Florida-based volleyball apparel line, Rox Volleyball. The duo and Rox Volleyball are both nationally recognized for their dedication specifically to the sport of volleyball. Working together they will launch a series of camps and clinics that will promote the growth of the sport amongst junior athletes.
“We are super excited about the relationship with Rox Volleyball,” said Phil Dalhausser, a three-time Olympian and gold medalist, “We plan to create high-end clinics with the USA Volleyball Strength Coach. He will be giving girls tips on strengthening and we will give instant feedback on what we want to see them change in their technique.”
The clinics will consist of a combination of talent from the Olympians and US Men’s National Team Strength and Conditioning Coach, Anthony Darmiento. Rox Volleyball plans to make the camps the most elite junior camps offered.
“We know the future of volleyball lies within the hands of the junior athlete,” said Rox Volleyball Founder and CEO, Danielle Olson, “The partnership will make quality training more accessible for athletes across the country.”
Nick Lucena, Dalhausser’s partner in the 2016 Summer Olympics, says he plans to create something that wasn’t available to him when he started playing beach volleyball.
“No one ever told me ‘Hey this is what it takes to become a professional beach volleyball player.’ That was never a topic, dream or even a thought,” said Lucena, “You had to move out to California where beach volleyball was a much bigger sport and get involved with USA Volleyball to learn that. Our goal is to implement it in areas around the country that don’t have the availability, education or knowledge.”
The camps and clinics are set to launch this spring and will be tied into the company’s junior volleyball tour, the RoxVB Series. The mission of the RoxVB Series is to unite the sport of volleyball across the nation by offering competitive play with no required memberships fees or organization affiliation.
Rox Volleyball will also be launching a signature line for the Olympians in early May. The line will be a collection of their favorite board shorts.
“Rox Volleyball’s board shorts are by far the best board shorts I’ve played in,” said Dalhausser, “I just think the material is perfect for beach volleyball – there’s a little bit of stretch. Sometimes you have to get low and you need a little stretch in your board shorts.”
Dalhausser signed the four-year endorsement deal late last Wednesday night. Lucena signed his deal late last Friday. The deal is set to expire in 2021, but the partners and Rox Volleyball hope to continue to create a legacy long after that.
