SouthWind Plantation Wins 2017 Lodge Of The Year Award

SouthWind Plantation, a 5,000-acre hunting and lodging facility located in South Georgia, has been named the 2017 Lodge of the Year by Orvis (www.orvis.com), the premiere retail and mail-order business specializing in high-end fly fishing, hunting and sporting goods.

This latest honor for SouthWind Plantation accompanies other endorsements that include being named as only one of 26 Orvis Endorsed Wing-Shooting facilities in the U.S., as well as an Endorsed Dog Breeder distinction. SouthWind is also highly regarded as a top fishing destination within the outdoor sporting community.

“Over three decades ago, Orvis embarked on a mission to make planning a world-class fly-fishing or wingshooting experience easier for our customers,” Orvis said in a recently released statement. “Each year, representatives from this remarkable network of outdoor leaders within the Orvis-endorsed family are recognized as the best of the best. At the root, these accolades represent the consolidated sentiments of the customer, as the feedback we receive about a customer experience is the ultimate arbiter of success. This designation also speaks to an operation’s environmental commitment, stewardship of their associated natural resource, and partnership with Orvis in providing the finest fly-fishing and wingshooting experience possible for the Orvis customer.”

SouthWind Plantation’s owner Tim Smith transformed his vision into the “ultimate hunting experience,” a journey that began with an initial land purchase of one hundred seventy acres in 1994. In 2000, SouthWind’s doors opened to the public, offering the original Main Lodge for overnight accommodations. Currently, SouthWind Plantation offers six uniquely furnished state-of-the-art lodges that accommodate forty-eight guests comfortably.

SouthWind Plantation has acquired several additional tracks of land since its inception, and expanded its hunting operation to also include cattle production, row crop farming, and quality hunting puppies available for purchase.

SouthWind recently opened Smith Station, our 11,000 square-foot multi-purpose facility, which is available to rent year-round for wedding receptions, corporate use or other private functions.
