More than half of US households own a pet and everyone has busy lifestyles; families on-the-go, working professionals, millennials with wanderlust. But these schedules don’t always work well for our favorite furry companions and we all want to be sure that our pets are well cared for while we’re away. There are many apps that connect pet owners with pet care, but all at a high cost. This app is different. LocalDawgs is the solution to expensive pet sitting. This member-based, community platform connects local pet owners with each other to exchange pet sitting instead of money. The pet owners are the pet sitters.

With share-based pet care – one member pet sits for you, and you reciprocate to that member or another member – for free. Pet owners are already well versed in caring for pets and therefore understand their needs and demands. The added bonus is that connecting local pet owners with each other builds communities and friendships – for humans and their pets.

It’s easy to join – just sign up to become a member. There is a free 30-day trial period and then just a small $3.99 monthly fee. The annual cost is cheaper than one night of pet sitting. Create a profile for you and your pet and then select the dates you are going away or available to pet sit. See who is available in your neighborhood and browse their profiles. Co-founders Sarah and Ben Tantillo are siblings on the go. Sarah was having a hard time finding someone to care for her dog, Wolfie, while she was traveling for work or when something came up last minute. It was always stressful to find a solution that didn’t cost hundreds of dollars or feel like a burden on friends. When she realized she shared this problem with many other pet owners she decided to do something about it. Sarah brought Ben on as her business partner and it’s been full steam ahead ever since.
