PBS Celebrates the Joy of Reading With THE GREAT AMERICAN READ (w.t.)
New Series and Nationwide Campaign Asks Readers to Choose “America’s Best-Loved Book”
PBS will launch THE GREAT AMERICAN READ (w.t.) in the spring of 2018, a new eight-part television series and nationwide campaign that explores the joy of books and the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved books, chosen by the public. Designed to spark a national conversation about reading and the books that have inspired, moved and shaped us, THE GREAT AMERICAN READ (w.t.) encompasses the eight-part PBS series, community reading programs and special events, and a wide range of digital and social media initiatives. Featuring testimonials from notable figures from the entertainment, sports, news and literary worlds, the series culminates in the first-ever national vote to choose “America’s Best-Loved Book.”

CIVILIZATIONS, a PBS and BBC Co-Production, to Premiere Spring 2018
Nine-Part Global Series Explores the Power of Art From Earliest Civilizations to the Present
In the spring of 2018 PBS will air CIVILIZATIONS, a new nine-part series presented in partnership with the BBC that tells the story of art from the dawn of human history to the present day —for the first time on a global scale. Inspired by Civilization, Kenneth Clark’s landmark 1969 acclaimed series about Western art, this bold new series will reveal the role art and the creative imagination have played in the forging of humanity itself, and introduce a new generation to works of beauty, ingenuity and illumination created across cultures and continents. From the landscape scrolls of classical China and the sculpture of the Olmecs to African bronzes, Japanese prints and French Impressionist paintings, CIVILIZATIONS will explore the wealth of treasures created by cultures around the globe.

Offering a Social Studies Curriculum, Multiplatform Show Will Invite Young Children to Explore World Cultures

New multiplatform animated series LUNA AROUND THE WORLD, produced by 9 Story Media Group and created by Emmy Award-winning animator, writer and artist Joe Murray (Rocko’s Modern Life, Camp Lazlo) debuts nationwide in fall 2018 on PBS stations, the new 24/7 PBS KIDS channel and PBS KIDS digital platforms. With a social studies curriculum, LUNA AROUND THE WORLD will encourage kids ages 4-7 to explore and appreciate cultures from all over the world, and build global citizenship and social skills.
