Travel Insurance for Cruise Excursions: What’s Not Covered and How to Get It
Most cruise lines offer on-shore excursions to travelers, but many of the popular excursions they sell may not be covered by travel insurance, warns leading travel insurance comparison site, Squaremouth.
“Many travelers think buying excursions through their cruise line means they would automatically be covered by their travel insurance,” said Squaremouth Claims Director Brandi Morse. “Depending on the excursion, that’s not always true.”
What Activities Are Not Covered?
Popular excursions that include zip lining, water skiing, jet skiing, surfing, windsurfing, rock climbing, and bungee jumping, among others, may not be covered by travel insurance.
It doesn’t have to be an excursion to be excluded. Many cruises have rock climbing walls and surfing simulators on board, and these activities typically will not be covered, according to Morse.
Why Are Some Activities Not Covered?
Most travel insurance policies do not include Hazardous Sports coverage. Each policy will have a specific list of excluded Hazardous Sports, and any injuries incurred during those activities will not be covered.
Buying Tip
Travelers who are interested in these excursions should search for a travel insurance policy with Hazardous Sports coverage. Using Squaremouth’s “Hazardous Sports” filter will show all available policies that include Hazardous Sports coverage.
