Many Americans may be starting the year on a budget after a record-setting season for holiday spending. But for travelers looking to start 2019 with a trip, CheapTickets is sharing its nine cheapest destinations to travel to in the new year.
The budget travel site compared average vacation package prices, roundtrip airfare and daily hotel rates with travel dates from January 1-March 31, 2019. The following destinations are the nine cheapest in each category.

South America leads the way for jet-setters with affordable airfare to Argentina and Peru. Beach lovers can find great flight deals in the U.S., too, with cheap routes to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Long Beach, California, and West Palm Beach, Florida.
The cheapest hotels in 2019 are in Southeast Asia. Average prices in Cebu, Philippines, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam are $90 a night or less from January through March.

CheapTickets is also sharing information about the best places to save big in 2019. The site looked at hot spots with the biggest year-over-year savings in the first quarter compared with the same time last year. According to McDonald, budget-conscious travelers should get their passports ready.
